2008-2009, Beaver Island Community School –
This 20,000 square foot project (12,000' new and 8,000' remodel) was started before the students were out of school in May 2008. The project stayed on schedule and on budget.
All but the gym was demolished in order to make way for the new facility. Beaver Gems crew used their previous knowledge in Lead Abatement during part of the demolition. Beaver Gems also delivered 40 yard dumpsters to the Island for the disposal to be taken off the Island.
The new Beaver Island Community School was designed by BETA Design Group of Grand Rapids. Beaver Gems provided all the site work and excavation, rough and finish carpentry and all other needed construction equipment to the project.
A multitude of subcontractors worked on this project providing specialty services including Masonry Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, and Glazing.
Final completion on the project was given in February 2009. All students and teachers were moved into the new school and were using it before the month of February was over.
A formal Dedication Ceremony for the new Beaver Island Community School was held on Saturday, May 23, 2009.
